Gawar/Guar beans Bhaji (Cluster Beans)


Gawar sabji(cluster beans)
Cluster beans,also known as Gavar/Gawar or Guar are very popular throughout India.This version of Gawar is cooked using roasted peanut powder.It is one of the healthiest vegetables as beans are very low in calories.

prep. time:-10-15 mins
cooking time:-20-25 mins







Ingredients:-
1/4 kg (250 gm) gawar (cluster beans)
1 tbsp roasted peanut(groundnut) powder
1 medium onion,finely chopped
2 tsp kanda-lasun masala(or 1 tsp red chilli powder+ 1/2 tsp garam masala)
coriander(cilantro) for garnishing
salt to taste
For tempering:-
1 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp mustsrd seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds(jeera)
Method:-
1.  Pick out any hard or blemished beans  and discard them.Wash the remaining gawar with plenty of water.
2.  Remove both the ends.Pluck and make 1 inch pieces. Keep aside.
3.  In  a wok/kadhai/pan,heat oil. When hot enough,add  mustard seeds,cumin seeds,onion and saute on medium flame till onion becomes translucent.
4.  Add kanda-lasun masala(or red chilli powder + garam masala).
5.  Add gawar,peanut powder,salt to taste and mix well.Cover it with a lid and cook for 15 mins. Stir it after 7-8 mins.No water is needed,but if want, you can add 1,2 tbsp water in it.
6.  Garnish with cilantro and serve hot  with chapati.
Tips:-
1. Gawar can be pre-cooked in pressure cooker by takig 2 whistles.
2. If kanda-lasun masla is not available,use red chilli powder+garam masala/goda masala or simply red chilli powder.
3. Raw potatoes cubes/thin slices can be added to make a change in flavour.
4. If you like fresh coconut, 2 tbsp coconut  can be added into it.
5.Instead of peanut powder,roasted sesame powder can be used for a change in flavour.
